Why encourage your friends and organizations to participate? Being part of our Golf Outing means you've chosen to be intentional about contributing to a young person's educational future! Keep reading as we illuminate our why.

What Lasting Change Requires: How Scholarships Become Community Change

Every community eventually faces the same question: Who will carry the work forward?

Who will teach our children, care for our elders, advocate for families, guide young people through difficult seasons, and stand alongside neighbors when life becomes hard? These roles are often filled by educators, social workers, counselors, community organizers, and service professionals whose impact reaches far beyond any job description. They are builders of possibility.

At Flanner House, we believe that strong communities do not happen by accident. They are cultivated intentionally through investments in people. That is why the scholarship supported by our annual golf outing matters so much.

This scholarship is more than financial assistance. It is a statement of faith in the next generation. It is our way of saying that we see future teachers sitting in our classrooms today. We see future counselors, nonprofit leaders, healthcare professionals, and community advocates already emerging in our neighborhoods. We recognize their potential, and we are committed to helping remove barriers that might stand in their way.

For more than 128 years, Flanner House has understood that community transformation begins with people. Buildings matter. Programs matter. Resources matter. But ultimately, it is people who create change. It is people who inspire hope, solve problems, and help communities heal and thrive.

Every scholarship awarded is an investment in that future. Every dollar raised is a vote of confidence in a young person who may one day return to serve the very community that helped shape them.

That is how lasting change happens — not simply by meeting today's needs, but by preparing tomorrow's leaders.

"People who didn't even know me trusted me to keep going. That means a lot. Every sacrifice made to support this scholarship is seen, felt, and heard. So, I would tell them thank you." — Keaun Michael Brown, IU Indianapolis c/o 2026

What Are the Flanner Babies Up to This Summer?

Summer Fun Is in Full Swing!

This summer, 75 students in kindergarten through sixth grade are participating in Flanner House's eight-week summer camp, where learning and enrichment continue long after the school year ends.

Campers are engaging in STEM activities, fitness, arts and crafts, yoga, tennis, reading programs, field trips, and AI training. They are also participating in the four-week Scholastic Listen to Our Future program, designed to help prevent summer learning loss and strengthen academic skills.

While the need for quality summer programming remains high, limited funding required Flanner House to scale back portions of this year's offerings. Even so, our commitment to providing meaningful opportunities for young people has not wavered.

Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, children across our community continue to have access to experiences that inspire learning, growth, and discovery all summer long.

Donor Spotlight: Jake & Renee Coverdill

A Wedding Gift That Gives Back: The Coverdill Story

When Jake and Renee began planning their wedding, they wanted their celebration to reflect not only their commitment to one another, but also their commitment to serving others.

After Renee participated in a volunteer day of service at Flanner Farms through her employer, the couple felt drawn to support the work of Flanner House. Already familiar with our mission through their church's community involvement, they spent time in conversation and prayer considering how they could use their wedding as an opportunity to give back.

Rather than relying solely on a traditional wedding registry, Jake and Renee invited family and friends to make donations to Flanner House in honor of their marriage. To support their efforts, Flanner House provided customized donation materials, including QR codes, donation slips, and signage designed to match their wedding aesthetic.

Their decision is a reminder that life's most joyful milestones can also create meaningful impact for others.

As wedding season continues, we invite engaged couples to consider including Flanner House as part of their celebration! Whether you dedicate your entire registry or simply offer guests the option to make a charitable gift, your special day can help strengthen opportunities for children, families, and communities across Indianapolis. Flanner House can even provide customized materials to complement your event and make giving simple for your guests.

Donate Today!

For 128 years, Flanner House has stood with this community — through hard winters, unexpected storms, and long, uncertain summers. And every season, we are reminded of the same truth: our work is only possible when all of us take responsibility for one another.

This summer, that responsibility is urgent. When school doors close, the needs of our children and families do not. Young people need safe places to grow, create, and be seen. Families need to know that a nutritious meal is not a question mark.

This is the moral heart of what we do. This is the calling of the moment.

Your gift this summer is more than a donation — it is an act of solidarity. It is a statement that every child deserves a summer of possibility, and that no family should face hunger because the calendar changed.

We have set a goal of $10,000 by July 15, 2026. Whether a one-time gift or an ongoing commitment, every contribution moves us forward. Whatever you are able to give, please know: it matters. It matters deeply.

Happy Juneteenth!
