Ujamaa is an independent Black-owned bookstore that houses an ever-growing collection of books to sell for readers of all ages. Named to represent one of the seven pillars of Kwanzaa, Ujamaa means cooperative economics. We value sharing space, knowledge and resources. Our bookstore retails many different items, such as fragrant oils, incense sticks, handcrafted jewelry, art, candles and greeting cards, all by amazing Black business owners and artisans. The mission of Ujamaa is to be a valued resource where everyone in the community feels empowered to learn, grow and build wealth together.
Shop online or in person. We believe in solidarity and abolition, the hopeful idea that a better world is possible, and we can create it together.
